Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Training: 29th March 2019

April 1, 2019

Friday the 29th of March 2019 saw ten guests visit LIVE Melbourne, attending Endoscope Reprocessing Specialist Training (ERST). They came from a mix of hospitals and education facilities including Warringal Private Hospital, Austin Health, Eastern Health, Victorian Gut Centre, Mayfield Education, the Avenue Hospital and Beleura Private Hospital. Facilitating the day was Laurie Mallia (Clinical Affairs Lead/Clinical Educator, Medical Affairs) assisted by Teresa Giles (Training Manager, Medical Affairs).

ERST is aimed at educating nurses and cleaning technicians with a focus on how to clean and handle Olympus flexible endoscope and surgical scopes. Topics covered throughout the day included endoscope mechanics, a reprocessing overview and demonstrations on pre-cleaning steps. This was followed by a hands-on session in the LIVE on-site cleaning room where the attendees put the theory into practice.

During the lunch break, attendees were taken on a tour of Olympus LIVE and the National Service Centre (NSC). Matt Thompson (Endoscopy Preceptor, Warringal Private Hospital) mentioned “that it was interesting Olympus scope repairs are performed in Australia rather than overseas” and noted “that it was great they were given the opportunity to see the NSC”.

The training was received well by all attendees.
